Official Google Voice Application for BlackBerry Launched Today via Googles Mobile Site!

I love Google...of course I use all of their services including the new Google Voice (formerly known as GrandCentral). Currently the service is by invitation only, however you can request an invoice to join. Just visit www.Google.com/voice for more information about Google Voice.

Today though, Google brought us even more love by officially launching their own native Google Voice application for BlackBerry devices. There was a Pay Version that available at http://www.GVDialer.com for $39.95 but finally we have the official free version through Google.

Today, we're happy to announce Google Voice for mobile which brings voicemail transcriptions, the ability to call and text with your Voice number, and cheap international dialing to your mobile phone. David and I were inspired to build this app when we went skiing for a weekend in Tahoe. Like all good Google Mobile team members, we each had three or four phones with us. Of course, carrying three phones while skiing is pretty tough, so we both decided to take a different phone to the slopes each day to see which one worked best as a 'winter sport device'.

Normally, this would have been a nightmare because our friends wouldn't know which number they could reach us on. But since we use Google Voice, one number rings all of our phones. As we were skiing and sending pics to our friends, we had a thought - it's great that our friends and family only need to use one number to reach us. But it's weird that our outbound calls and messages are shown as coming from the phone's underlying number, rather than from the Google Voice number that they're used to, causing confusion.

So with that, we're excited to release the Google Voice app for Android and Blackberry. You can use the app to make outgoing SMS messages and calls from your Google Voice number. What's more, this app improves the mobile experience of Google Voice in a number of ways.

The Google Voice app integrates seamlessly with your phone's native address book, making it even easier to call or text with your Voice number. Voicemail transcriptions are now available, and the app will highlight individual words during playback just like your favorite karaoke song. It also lets you take advantage of Google Voice's low-priced international call rates, starting at only $0.02/minute.

Wordpress Blogging via Blackberry

I'm always blogging, where it is here on www.BlackBerrySmoothie.com or MicroBlogging on Twitter I was pleased to see there was a Blackberry application for those who use WordPress.

The Wordpress client is a whiz to use the moment you install it on your phone. You will however, have to spend some time to setup your hosting details, either your hosted on a wordpress domain or your you have Wordpress installed on your domain. Setup is very easy and straight forward, enter your URL, username and password.

After this you can now compose new post and even upload pictures. The client also has some handy comment moderation, so now you can through them where ever you may be.

Overall the wordpress client works great and is also compatible with the Pearl, Bold and Storm.

Visions of YouTube Videos Danced Through Their Heads...

Vision for YouTube provides users with easy access to online YouTube videos. Watch the latest and top rated videos directly on your BlackBerry device. Shortcuts can be used through the keyboard for switching between pages and reloading a standard feed. Its much quicker (and easier) than trying to view the videos through the browser and since switching I have not had the error of "Un-Supported Media" pop up on a YouTube page yet!

BuzzMe!

One of the first things I noticed with my Blackberry (and I've seen people complaining about it online as well) is that when you set it to Vibrate and Ring it will Vibrate first and then only ring...it won't do it at the same time. While it is nice to get that first buzz before the ring so you have a chance to quickly get it before the ringer actually starts, I know I miss my LG enV and my old Nokia's dual alert ringer especially when I'm someplace with a lot of background noise.
